Checklist Before Delivering the Baby

Getting ready for the big day? As early as 7th month on my pregnancy, I packed all the items I will need for me and for my baby. I placed them in 2 bags – one for my things and the other bag for my baby things – which my husband will give to the nurses. I made sure to inform him where I put this and that so he will not cram on the day and rummage through the bags. To be sure that I have prepared everything, I made a maternity checklist.

For Baby:

  • tie-side shirts
  • white colored pajamas
  • blankets with hood
  • mittens
  • bibs
  • booties
  • cap
  • newborn diapers
  • towel/wash cloth
  • feeding bottles
  • baby bath
  • cotton balls
  • 70% alcohol
  • baby oil

For Me:

  • maternity clothes (choose those that are easy to open during breastfeeding)
  • maternity pads (funny, there’s no small size for adult diapers so I used medium and it was big for me. I requested to use maternity pads and just changed all the time for they were easily filled…eww!)
  • breast pads
  • breastfeeding bra (I only wore this when we checked out.)
  • pair of socks (to keep my feet warm from the airconditioned hospital room)
  • face towel and all things used for hygiene (I’m still conscious of my appearance…haha)

For My Husband (this makes 3 bags already…but it’s for him to keep and not to be passed to the nurses):

  • money (of course)
  • ID cards (both his and mine)
  • relevant documents (insurance, SSS, etc)
  • clothes
  • cellphone (for contacts)
  • camera (for capturing the best moments…or just use your cameraphone)
  • something to eat (he might pass out of hunger, anxiousness, and all mixed feelings…)
  • something to keep him busy while waiting (book to read or gaming…but I don’t think he really needs those. Nurses at the labor room told me my husband is sitting on the floor at the foot of the labor room door with hands clasped together…praying maybe… And yes, he told me he really prayed the Our Father-Hail Mary-Glory Be more than 10 times. He wanted to go to the chapel to pray or waiting area to sleep but he doesn’t want to leave the labor room because the nurses or doctor might look for him and asked something that I need or will be needed during and after the labor or delivery.)

Trust me, this maternity checklist is very helpful. I’ve used this twice already and had shared this checklist to other expectant moms.
